DESCRIPTION/SYNOPSIS:
***HUGO AWARD FINALIST***
Two months have past since a myriad of alien objects clenched about the Earth, screaming as they burned. The heavens have been silent since – until a derelict space probe hears whispers from a distant comet. Something talks out there: but not to us. Who should we send to meet the alien, when the alien doesn't want to meet? Send a linguist with multiple-personality disorder and a biologist so spliced with machinery that he can't feel his own flesh.
Send a pacifist warrior and a vampire recalled from the grave by the voodoo of paleogenetics. Send them to the edge of the solar system, praying you can trust such freaks and monsters with the fate of a world. You fear they may be more alien than the thing they've been sent to find – but you'd give anything for that to be true, if you knew what was waiting for them...
About Peter Watts
This is awkward and a little creepy. They tell me I have to do it for promotional purposes, but I've already got a blog. I've already got a website. Being told that setting up an author page on fcuking *Amazon* is essential to success? A company that treats us all like such goddamn children it doesn't even allow us to correctly spell an epithet with a venerable history going back 900 years or more? That just sucks the one-eyed purple trouser eel.
Also the bio information above is fucked. For example, my work has only appeared in 36 BoY collections, not 350; the noms and awards info is out of date too, but apparently it was all written by some publishing house and I can't change it from this interface.
Still, here I am. But if you're really all that interested, go check out my actual blog/website. Google is not your friend (any more than Amazon is), but at least it'll point you in the right direction.
I'm the one on the left, by the way.
Reviews
“Wow. Just wow. The grifter novels feel like they’re written by another author i just dont really get them but this, this is the pinnacle of what scifi should aspire to.”
“Dark and philosophical, wonderful”
“I loved it. Deeply philosophical investigation of the nature of consciousness and a great story too.”

How book quality is graded:
- New - brand new and never owned.
- As-New - with extremely little signs of use, no blemishes. This includes 'mint' condition vintage books with no sign of use.
- Excellent - minor signs of use, may be almost 'as-new' except for a single scratch, small tear or scuff. A healthy firm spine, pages are still well aligned. Excellent vintage books will have more signs of ware than recently published books.
- Great - very obvious signs of use, may have a single bent page or a some cover fading. Spine is still strong, but pages may not all line up perfectly when book is closed.
- Unsellable - books that I don't bother purchasing for resale and will not appear on this store; many bent torn or folded pages, great sign of wear, stains on pages, sticky/stuck pages, large tears, weak spine and/or lose pages destroyed front/back cover.
Some tanning or darkening of vintage book pages is not considered a sign of poor condition, this is an attribute of all aging books, just like the nostalgic 'old book smell.'
